This is the world's FIRST Snake Zodiac stamps 

issued by the Japan Post on January 1965.  

A souvenir sheet with a block of four 5 yen 

stamps depicting a straw snake to ward 

off devil spirits.

Snake Zodiac stamps issued between

1964 to 1988.  During this period only a

 handful of countries (not more than six)

participated in this special issue.

There are about 3,000 species of snakes 

with few hundred are featured on postage 

stamps from worldwide countries.

Cobra Snake Charming is one of

the snake entertainment originated

from India.

Besides Zodiac, Snake can be seen on other

 subject such as cartoon, snake and ladder

 board game, fables, kites, toys, jewellery etc.

A common emblem for medicine depicts 

one or two snakes coiling up a staff. It 

representing the healing powers of

 the medicine.

Since 2002, Pos Malaysia issued total 

of 8 stamps (in 4 issues) on Snake, as a 

special tribute to the local species.

Other than stamps, First Day Cover (FDC) 

are included in this collection, too.

The few hundred presentation pages are

housed in this special albums telling the

snake's tales on stamps from 1965 until 2025.
